Hi Guys !

So after months of procrastinating i've finally gone ahead and created a promo intended to be handed out to selected venues with emphasis of having a warmup slot at there.

The intention was to post such promos along with a quick typed letter and then followed up by email a week later. Other venues will be sent digital copies and relevant links via email.

Would this be the right way of going about it?

I've put alot of time and effort to make the promo look and sound professional so don't want to fall at the last hurdle.

Any advice on how you or someone you know went about it would be really helpful.

the best advice I can give is: make personal contact with promoters rather than venues... go to their nights, find them, introduce yourself and make a good impression.

You're far more likely to succeed if you know who you're dealing with, and they know about you already before they open your package...

Thanks for the reply.

I think i'll make contacts via email/facebook by researching nights that suit the genre i play.

Anyone else care to share advice?

I got my first few gigs by just hanging around in clubs until the end with my CD and waiting to speak to the promoter and bugging him until he had actually listened to it and gave me a date when i could play.

Can be a bit soul destroying be the last person in a club at 4am with your cd - but if you get the gig worth it.

I'm willing to do this for what i love to do BUT are there alternative ways other than actually going to the club and stalking promoters?

I'd imagine one obvious one that comes to mind would be to get a hit record or some sort of recognition for work i've released.

I totally understand its something that requires work and it isn't going to fall in my lap but i'd like to know all ally's i could go down.
