So i want to help people with talent to get signed, this would mean u have a opportunite to be showcased on Beatport, Juno, Traxsource dance tunes and many more, giving u more exposion to a bigger audience.

1. first make sure for ur self that the track or track's have potential.
Tip: Listen to lots of music available on Beatport or other stores.

2. always aim high !! first sent ur tracks to the best labels, often the labels find in the top 100 of digital download stores.
Wen u are not ready for those labels, trie smaller labels.
This will not mean that u dont have a chance for a top 10 hit !!! but the chance is smaller because bigger labels have more connections and bigger budget's for promoting there music, people know these labels from bigger artist that are on the label, so people will buy them often faster!!!

3. Listen to the tracks that the labels allready have released, this to make shure that the label u sent your demo to is gonna be interested in ur track.
Tip: Dont sent Techno to a Tech house label, or DNB to a minimal label ( u know what i mean)

4. Wen u found the label or label's u think would be interested in your track, then upload ur track to soundcloud(320 kbps) and set it on private... this because u have to make it downloadable and u dont want everybody to be able to download it !!!
Make sure that u have the labels u like and are good for ur genre in your friendlist.( wen u dont have them find trough the search option in soundcloud)
then sent them by selecting them in ur follow/following part!
Keep in mind dont sent them to everybody, most labels dont like to see that u have shared it with 500 people.
This could take a while before or if the labels wil check the track, some labels are very busy and have up to 500 tracks each day, wen they dont react it doesnt mean that ur music is not good enough!!!

5. Sometimes u have to sent a demo by mail...
Wen u cant find the label on soundcloud in means u have to sent the demo by
mail.... this mail addres can be found on there website or myspace ( google it );)
make sure u read what they want on the site .. some labels want a link to the place where they can download the track ( Soundcloud or sent space is often good ).
Some labels want u to ad some more info: your Biography( ur life story in music ) and Discography ( Tracks u allready released and on what labels ), maybe a picture and links to things u allready did, releases or gig's.
These labels often want to sign u as a artist to the label, keep in mind wen u do that u often arent allowed to release on other labels.. think about it!!!
Tip: Its always good to ad a bit of extra info... on every mail or on the track subscription on Soundcloud, Always put ur email and websites on it!!!
Make it easy for them to see as much of u as they can, without having to find
it out them selfs( remember labels are busy people !!! )
------------------------------------------------------------------
So lets have a quick recab.

Make sure ur music is the best quality u can make !!!
Make sure u know the label releases ur genre!!!
Use Soundcloud as a solid promo base for ur Demo but keep stuff u want to release private !!!
Give as much info as u can and read what they want on there website!!!

And always remember it could take a while before u could get feedback!!!
Be patience and keep making your track's, every track u make... makes u better!!!

I will soon make a list of labels and there info ( Genre and way of contact ).
These will be labels i have worked with and know who will listen to your stuff!!!( i have to consult the admin about this )

Good luck and keep playing !!!

Also another thing I'd love to know, say a label did take an interest in a track that you've made then what kind of contract/deal should I be getting?

E.G. what kind of percentage per sale does the artist/s get, and/or is there any up front payment?

Its hard to come by that kind of information because anyone is secretative about what they get, but what about people who have never had a tune signed and want to make sure they are getting a fair deal

hey Paul

Most of the labels do a 50/50 deal per sale, and dont give u money up front.
One thing u have to keep in mind is that the sale's these day's are not bringing up lots of cash... a lot of labels put a amount like 30 till 60 euro in the contract for there own cost.
This means that u have to sell more then that amount to get paid.
Dont expect a lot of money from the sales.
Your goal these days with releasing should be to get your name and sound to a larger crowd!!!!( its more like promoting your self )

Also most of the contract's are for 5 years this means that the track its there's for 5 years.

So be careful read ur contract good!!! Some contract's sign ur name not just the track, wen this happens u only can realease for them !!!

List will follow... as soon as the admin approves it ( its still D.ramirez site and i dont want a conflict whit him ;-)

Some labels take there sweet time to reply..... this could mean a couple of things...

They dont like it.. a good label gives feedback !!!! so then u know.
They have no more place in there schedule for new releases!!! ( most labels can do 2 releases a month on beatport )
Some labels are so busy, i get feedback sometimes after 4 weeks, remmber some labels get 100/500 demo's a week.

Cheers for all that Andy, yeah I can understand it could take a while to get through 100's of demo everyweek.

And all that info on contracts has been much helpful aswell dude, I know there isnt a lot of money in making music these days but like you say use it as a promotional tool to get a larger following and even get DJ gigs etc
