i got this email today from a disgruntled forum member in regards to the music showcase competition - and i wanted to share it with the other forum members and get your opinion on this topic.

nothing is set in stone - if the majority of people think that this form of picking the winner is not fair we can review it -

thoughts?

------------

i really like the new forum but the competition is a joke.

i checked the results every day it can't be that on the first day only one track gets 15 votes the rest only 2 or3 and the next day one track makes like 25 in one day and the day after that the other track just got to 50 votes
and those tracks aren't even the best ones. there are a lot of tracks with only 2 votes that are better this is so unfair for them.

i mean why should the one with the most friends he gets to vote or the one with the most not real accounts win the competition. even if you watch the ips you can restart your router everytime and get a new one. that is so insane there are only two ways to fix it let d.ramirez pick the final track or let the people that are the top 9 only vote but not for themselfs.

i know you get a lot of new people into your forum when the finalists get their friends to vote but who needs not active people in the forum
your losing your reputation i mean who will participate in such a competition

Yeah.. The letting other people in the Competition only vote thing works.. and is fairly simple - as opposed to getting the CIA to tap phonelines.

I've seen that on other w/sites.

There's always summat!

Uhmm..i understand the point of that user.
Like any other competition where the people vote for the winner, not allways the best ones wins, but the most famous, or the most cute(loolll), etc..

Maybe we should wait and see how this system works, if in a couple of months you find theres too much fake votes, too much new ips/users just to vote, and that kind of problems, then you should change for a system where Dean himself or people he trusts musicaly choose the winner.

OK - But its a bit too long to wait a couple of months.

If you have a problem, take action & fix it.

Everyone can still comment & say who their favourite is etc..

For all the points you have just given there, it seems like a waste of time continuing with a flawed system for no real reason.

Dean & Co cannot be micromanaging every last detail on the site either - so its not viable to get the final word from them for everything. The Users have to drive it to some extent.

Thats a Dict8orship Man - Ah no, but you may as well go back to the 1st type of vote rigging! LOL :)

A forum is, well, a forum and people will use it the way they wan't. It's pointless to try and 'control' who gets a vote. It will take up too much admin time. Two options I see...

1) An alternative could be the admin selecting the track they think is worthy. It's not like the admin here are unreleased artists. They know what works and what doesn't. The submission guidelines would have to be tightened, but there's your alternative.

2) Make the voting public so we can see who votes on what track. If it's all new members, then there's something up.

Yeah - You can usually do a Poll on these forums with the results of the voting made either Public or Private.

Can Admin delete Votes in a Poll if post count for member is below say, 15 or 20?

That's probably possible, or go of the date the member joined the forum, whichever seems fairest.

Another suggestion,

3) Make the user have to have X amount of posts before they can vote. Not sure if that's possible, but seems like a good idea.

hay guys

we been discussing this one and we have decided that in the future the winner will be chosen firstly through a public vote and then kristoph, admin and myself will pick the best track out of the top 3 -

i want everyone to have their say and for your opinions to count - and i think its fair if the winner is decided by 3 people.

we don't want to go back on ourselves so for this round the winner will be decided by public vote - but from next month we will have this new system in place where the winner will be decided by the 3 judges.

That new solution sounds really fair :):)
